An event with a 200 rating value or lower awards rating points only to the top 3 finishers. Tournaments with a 500 rating value or higher grant rating points to the top 8 finalists.

The number of rating points a player receives is calculated as follows:
Tournament rating value divided by placing equals rating points.
For a 500 rating event, below is how rating points would be distributed:
- 1st Place: 500 / 1 = 500 Rating Points
- 2nd Place: 500 / 2 = 250 Rating Points
- 3rd Place: 500 / 3 = 167 Rating Points
- 4th Place: 500 / 4 = 125 Rating Points
- 5th Place: 500 / 5 = 100 Rating Points
- 7th Place: 500 / 7 = 71 Rating Points
Once the initial rating value is determined from the number of entrants, this value can increase based on two factors:
1. Quality of Competition (Additional 500 Rating)
A tournament will receive an additional 500 rating value if one of the following conditions is met:
- At least 5 of the top 10 rated players are entered in the tournament.
- At least 10 of the top 20 rated players are entered in the tournament.
- The combined number of top 20 players plus distinguished international players entered in the tournament equals at least 10.
2. Prize Pool in Excess of $5,000 (Additional 500 Rating)
Events with a prize pool of at least $5,000 will be awarded an additional 500 rating value. This is typically money guaranteed by the tournament organizer, though it will also include events where the number of paid entries creates a prize pool in excess of $5,000. Prize money is factored into the rankings since large prize pools create even more pressure on players, especially in the final stages of a tournament.
- Only events over the last six months are factored into the rankings.
- A player's top four performances are used to compute their rating.
- Only singles tournaments using the double elimination format will award rating points.
- Only players based in the United States, its territories, or Canada are ranked.
- Tournaments with restrictions (i.e. invitation only, certain controllers banned, etc.) will not be rated.
- The first major tournament for a new game will be worth a minimum of 500 rating points.
Tie Breakers
- Player with the fewest tournament placings.
- Player who placed in highest rated tournament.
- Most recent tournament placing.
